SCR technology

How AdBlue® turns NOx into nitrogen and water.

AdBlue® is injected into the exhaust stream, where it releases ammonia. On the SCR catalyst, that ammonia converts harmful nitrogen oxides into harmless nitrogen and water vapour.

01Engine exhaustExhaust gas leaves the diesel engine carrying NOx, CO, HC and particulate matter.
02AdBlue® dosingA dosing control unit injects AdBlue® from its own tank into the hot exhaust, releasing ammonia (NH₃).
03SCR catalystInside the catalytic converter, ammonia reacts with the nitrogen oxides.
04Clean exhaustHarmless nitrogen (N₂) and water vapour (H₂O) leave the tailpipe.
